Industrial Desiccant Dehumidification for Large-Scale Projects
When a standard water loss requires advanced drying โ or when a commercial property has suffered significant flooding โ Allied Restoration deploys industrial desiccant dehumidifiers capable of processing up to 5,000 cubic feet of air per minute (CFM). This is the same class of equipment used in hospital restoration, large commercial buildings, and catastrophic flood events.
What Is a Desiccant Dehumidifier?
Unlike refrigerant dehumidifiers, which cool air to condense moisture, desiccant dehumidifiers use a silica gel or similar material to adsorb moisture directly from the air. This makes them effective at lower temperatures and capable of achieving much lower dew points โ making them ideal for drying structural assemblies that refrigerant units cannot fully dry.
When We Deploy Desiccant Units
- โขCommercial properties with large floor plates
- โขMulti-story buildings with widespread moisture
- โขCold conditions (below 65ยฐF) where refrigerant units lose efficiency
- โขCrawl spaces, parking garages, and other hard-to-dry spaces
- โขSituations requiring very low humidity levels for specialty drying
- โขWhen temporary power is needed alongside drying equipment
Setup and Configuration
Deploying a 5,000 CFM desiccant unit requires careful planning. Ducting must be designed to direct dry air into the affected areas and exhaust humid air out of the building. We use psychrometric calculations to determine the ideal equipment placement, air exchange rates, and target dew point for each specific job. Daily monitoring and adjustment ensures the drying proceeds on schedule.
By the Numbers
A 5,000 CFM desiccant unit can process approximately 300,000 cubic feet of air per hour โ equivalent to cycling the air volume of a 30,000 sq ft commercial building approximately 10 times per hour. This drying capacity enables us to tackle projects that would be impossible with residential-grade equipment.
Allied Restoration maintains a fleet of desiccant dehumidifiers available for deployment throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. For large commercial water losses or severe residential events, our equipment and expertise ensure the fastest possible drying timeline. Call (415) 529-5637 for emergency response.
